Oh, the torture of tease we sometimes subject ourselves to. Mentally trying on that glass slipper of fertility, I am reminded that it is oh so fragile, and yet I remain hopeful. Maybe if I hold my breath and don’t apply too much pressure or weight, this time it will fit.
Infertility is a trying engagement. Month after month, I have danced with my prince (like clockwork!), but these days I would not say it’s been a ball. Others are favored by fate and blessed with a near-instant family, while we are left to wait and wonder why them, why not us.
With dutiful devotion, we have endured countless scheduled rehearsals, with toes occasionally stepped on. It seems by now these steps should be a perfect and graceful waltz. It’s been so long since this dance was one of hope, and I wonder, will it ever be a dance for joy.
Oh, that elusive glass slipper … will it someday be blissfully mine?
