Rambling

adjective

  1. aimlessly wandering
  2. taking an irregular course; straggling
  3. spread out irregularly in various directions
  4. straying from one subject to another

In many ways, “rambling” is a near-perfect word that brings me to feel honestly at home. There’s my long-winded conversation style that assigns value to details others would ignore. There’s my over-thinking self that peels back and studies the layers that others only give a fleeting glance. And then there’s a lifetime of aimless wanderings that bring me to now feel the need to find my way back to my truer self.

Writing, poetry, inner work, self-expression …. I’ve tried this before. More than once. Every other time, it’s been bound pages accompanied by a pen. And each time, I started more determined than the last, but day-to-day distractions soon had me wandering a trail of lost intentions again.

This time. This time I have a better sense of direction and a better understanding of the why. For those who may one day wish they knew me better, here is where the enduring remnants lie.

May these pages be full and many before this aging soul runs out of ink.

Stream of Consciousness

Stream Of Consciousness

Shallow and clear they trickle
down a lazy creek they flow
polishing pebbles that rest on the surface
while huge boulders may lie below
in deep waters not as transparent
rich hues of life told to the eyes
revealing the silt of one’s story
cunning words can be truth in disguise
