Aging

Throughout life, I've devoted hours and hours of thought to the subject of aging, with those thoughts constantly evolving and changing.

Aging takes on a different look at each stage of life. When we’re young, we anxiously long for the many opportunities adulthood promises. (Oh, if we only knew!) We graduate from school, enter the workforce or get married, buy homes, have children, and build dreams for the future. But as the years progress, many people start to feel and fear the aging process, given all the heart wrenching reminders life provides.

In my own life, my ancestors left this earthly plane far too early in our collective journey. Once I surpassed the age of my elders when they passed, I became grimly aware of the countdown on my remaining days. Life started to look and feel different, and often not in the brightest and lightest of ways.

These poems and writings are a window to my thoughts and struggles as I grow older. For the young, they may provide some insight to the choices or fears an elderly friend or loved one now faces. For those who have lived long enough to appreciate the value of each day, remember this: No matter your joys or struggles, you're never alone on this side of life.
