I’m rather certain I wrote other poems before this one, but this is the earliest piece I have evidence of. The words and message were simple, but the emotion behind them …. deep. My mom returned that love in an everlasting form by transcribing it in cross-stitch.
You, dear Mom, gave me this life
To live the best I can.
And when the times get rough and hard,
You lend a loving hand.
Along with Dad, you gave me love
and helped me to know joy.
You taught me that this life is mine
to live, and not a toy.
You spend your days at home and work
to keep this house our home.
You keep us all a family
and teach us not to roam.
Sometimes you thought I didn’t care,
well, Mom, you were wrong.
No matter what you did or said,
I cared all along.
This didn’t cost a penny,
This poem I impart.
But it has some value, Mom,
Because it’s from my heart.
