Father’s Day Goodbye

06/19/22 Leave a Comment

Father’s Day …. We were never close, but he was still our father, and today another attempt to call brought a stranger’s message to my sister’s ear.

A Google search of his name and town revealed a funeral home’s confirmation that any further attempts at reconciliation were silenced by the news. The last link was now irreparably broken; our biological father was biologically gone.

We all know that life is fleeting, and our counted days are far too few. So, if you have a parent on this side of the physical dimension with whom you’re not close in heart, there can be healing in the simple gesture of connecting with them by phone.

The promise of an awkward hello is far more welcome than the hollow echo of an unspoken goodbye.
