The Promise

07/25/02 Leave a Comment

The following are lyrics my heart wrote when my now-husband and I reconnected. These lyrics may be best felt or enjoyed if read while listening to The Promise, a song by Secret Garden, one of my favorites at this point in my life.

♥ ♥ ♥

(He says to her)
Hi, it’s me.
How are you?
I was just reminiscing through
the times we had, love we shared,
and I realized that I’ve always cared.
So now I’ve come to let you know
through all these years I have loved you so.
I never meant to hurt you.
But now I know what is true.
So if you’re ever lonely
please just know I care.
I will be right there.

Then she said to him:
(in a violin voice)
So long ago, far away,
another life, in another day,
you filled my heart, you touched my soul.
Then you left my world, and I was less than whole.
But now you’re here, to my surprise,
an older man with the same young eyes.
I didn’t know I missed you,
but, oh, to simply kiss you
now brings me to a place where
the years disappear.
I will be right here.

So the promise goes.
