I roamed through my mind closing doors, one by one,
which led to affairs I had left halfway done.
So ghostly the memories, the laughter, the tears;
recalling the feelings I’d lost through the years,
all wasted to dreams that I’d had to be free.
I woke from that nightmare to find only me.
Wishing tomorrow could take me again
to the places, now empty, where once I had been.
But as Winter makes barren, the Spring brings it back,
and others replenished to them what I’d lacked.
The doors now all fastened for fear that I may
realize the feelings denied yesterday.
